Easter is traditionally a time for celebration. It is a time when Christian’s celebrate the resurrection of Christ from the dead, after his death on the cross on Good Friday, but more and more today Easter is becoming a time when friends and families can come together and enjoy each other’s company as well as the beginning of Spring – much as Pagans celebrated the changing seasons and renewed life on Earth at this time of year.

Easter is an ideal time for a party – and as with every good party, guests are usually excited to receive an invitation. Here at UK-Entertainers we are able to provide you with FREE downloadable invitations for a range of party themes including an Easter Party. We have also provided you with ideas for ‘Easter Party Games’, along with ideas for ‘Easter Party Food’ and ‘Easter Party Decorations’ in our complimentary articles, both are designed to take some of the stress out of organising a party.

Easter invitations can be delivered in the traditional envelope or to keep in the Easter theme, folded / rolled and placed in a small plastic egg (which are available from most larger supermarkets and high street stores) and hand delivered.

UK-Entertainers have compiled a summary of some Easter games that you may like to include at your party.  As with all parties planning and preparation are key in its success, so spend a little time doing the groundwork and your party will run smoothly with lots of activities to keep everyone entertained.

Easter Egg Hunt
(You will need plastic or hard boiled decorated eggs and baskets or containers to collect them in).

This is perhaps the most common Easter Party Game.  Before your guests arrive hide your eggs in / outdoors (weather dependant) making sure that there are enough eggs for each child to find a good selection of eggs. Each child should have a basket or container to collect the eggs they find. The hunt can be made more difficult by asking each child to collect one of each specific colour / patterned eggs.  A small prize of a chocolate egg can be given to each child who participates.

Egg Bowling
(You will need hard boiled eggs and a small chocolate egg).

Decorate boiled eggs with different patterns enough for each child to have one each. The chocolate egg is placed in the middle of the floor or lawn. Everyone takes turns to roll their patterned egg as close as they can to the chocolate one without touching or moving it. The winner who is closest has the chocolate egg as a prize.

Egg Rolling
(You will need hard boiled eggs).

Egg rolling is very popular custom in many English villages and usually takes place down a hill.  This can be adapted for a party game. Each child is given a different patterned boiled egg. The children take turns to roll their egg, the winner's egg may be the one that rolls the farthest, survives the most rolls, or is rolled between two pegs.

Easter Egg and Spoon Race
(You will need spoons and hard boiled or plastic eggs).

Line the children up at a start line; give each child a spoon (serving spoons are easier and teaspoons more difficult) and a hard boiled or plastic egg. The children must race to the finish line balancing their egg on the spoon at arms length all the way. If they drop the egg they must stop pick it up, balance it again and carry on. Watch out for those who try to sneak a thumb on top of their egg!!

Bunny Hop
(You will need 2 large cut out paper eggs per team).

Divide the children into two teams. The first child places one egg on the floor in front of them and steps onto it, then puts the second egg down in front of them, steps onto it, turns and picks up the first egg from behind them, and places it on the floor in front of them to step onto. They continue this to the end of the room and back to their team where the next child repeats the process. The first team to finish is the winner.

Bunny Race
(You will need an open area / room).

For this Easter party game, the children could simply race using bunny hops style to a finish line. The race can be made more complicated by asking them to hop around several baskets of eggs, collecting one egg from each as they pass it.

Musical Eggs
(You will need large paper eggs enough for one per child).

Similar to musical chairs the eggs are placed on the floor and whilst the music plays the children walk around them. When the music stops each child has to stand on an egg. One egg is removed each time the music plays until the last child on an egg is the winner.

Blow the Egg
(You will need small plastic eggs and thick folded paper zig zag fans).

Decide on a start and finish line. Give each child an egg to put on the start line and a fan. The winner is the child who manages to “fan” their egg over the finish line. This can be more difficult than it sounds as eggs aren’t round!

Easter Bunny Says . . .
(Variation on Simon Says).

A twist on the traditional game children have to do action only when “Easter Bunny says . . . wave your arms” and not do the action if the instruction is just “Touch your nose”. Traditionally children who complete the instruction without “Easter Bunny Says” are out. If you have two adults running simultaneous games of “Easter Bunny Says” then if someone is ‘out' they transfer over to the other team and continue to participate.

Mend the Cracked Eggs
(You will need cardboard egg shapes, cut into 2,3,4 or more pieces depending on age group).

Each child is given a piece of an egg and the remaining pieces are randomly laid in the centre of the floor.  On the adults signal the children have to find the other pieces of their egg to make a complete one. This can be made easier by varying the colour, pattern and size of each egg for younger children, and more complex by making each egg more similar in colour and size for older children.

Pin the Egg on the Bunny
(You will need a large picture of a bunny, an egg for each child and a blindfold).

This is a variation on “Pin the tail on the Donkey”. You will need a large picture of an Easter Bunny with outstretched arms as if holding an egg attached to the wall, and eggs for the children to try and pin into his hands. Each child has an egg labelled with their name. They are blindfolded, spun around by an adult several times and then attempt to place their egg in the bunnies paws.  The child that places their egg closest to the correct position wins. (Sticky tak is a good alternative to drawing pin holes in your walls!)

How many Eggs?
(You will need a jam jar and egg shaped sweets).

Fill the jam jar with the egg shaped sweets and count how many are needed (keeping a note somewhere of the number).  Allow the children to guess how many sweets are in the jar, writing down their guesses. The child who’s guess is the closest takes the jar home as the prize.

Whichever games you decide to play at your Easter Party remember preparation is everything, and will make the party far more enjoyable for you and your guests. UK-Entertainers hope that you, your friends and family have a fun filled Easter Party.
